Open Your Heart to the Moon – A special performance of moon inspired ragas, on sitar, by virtuoso multi-instrumentalist Baluji Shrivastav OBE accompanied by Yousuf Ali Khan on tabla. Opening with a sung poem by Linda Shanovitch, accompanied by dilruba.
Firmly established in the Hindustani classical tradition Baluji delights in exploring music in all forms and composes for film, dance, theatre, Western orchestra and Indian ensembles. Signed to ARC Music, Baluji has had many successful tours and has worked with a wide number of renowned artists including Stevie Wonder, Massive Attack, and Noel Gallagher and has his own Jazz ensemble Jazz Orient/Re-Orient. Baluji is a tireless ambassador for visually impaired musicians and was awarded the OBE for services to music and as founder of Inner Vision Orchestra in 2016. Earlier this year he received the prestigious Hind Rattan from the Indian Government.
Baluji will be joined by the highly acclaimed Yousuf Ali Khan on tabla, part of a famous dynasty of Bengali musicians and a pupil of renowned master Ali Akhbar Khan.
Baluji will also be holding a free music workshop for visually impaired people during the Festival, with support from GLFB and Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers.
